水基胶粘剂是指以水为分散介质的胶粘剂，也称为水性胶粘剂，是我国近年来发展迅速的胶粘剂种类，2012年产量达341万吨，约占胶粘剂总产量的60.9%。与溶剂型胶粘剂相比，水基胶粘剂由于以水为分散介质，因此具有环保、成本低、不易燃烧、生产和使用安全、粘度易调控等优点；但是体系中的水分会使被粘织物收缩或使纸张卷曲和起皱，也会导致金属被粘物产生腐蚀和生锈问题。由于水的表面张力大，极性高，水基胶粘剂对于非极性或弱极性材料的粘接性能较差。此外，水的比热容较大，挥发速度慢，因此胶层在固化时需要使用加热干燥设备。水基胶粘剂的固含量为40%～80%，通过提高体系的固含量，可以在一定程度上提高胶层的固化速度。
